Voice Teacher Bios

CATHY BALLEW

Cathy Ballew has been teaching private voice and piano lessons since she moved here in 2006. She began teaching voice lessons at the new high school that first year and has taught at Willow Springs and Sloan Creek Intermediate School the past several years. Cathy loves to sing and has performed leading and chorus roles in operas and musicals such as Pirates of Penzance, Texas!, Fiddler on the Roof,  South Pacific, Annie Get Your Gun, and The Consul.  She sang with the Houston Symphonic Chorus, Phoenix Symphonic Chorus and the Mesquite Community Chorus. While at SMU, she sang with the SMU Chorale and Chamber Singers. Cathy and her husband help lead worship and she is also a songwriter. She wrote a collection of songs for young mothers entitled “Builders of His Kingdom” and it is available on CD. Helping students reach their potential vocally while enjoying the process is one of Cathy’s passions!

 

SUSAN SEIBERT

Susan Seibert has been teaching music for more than 25 years.  She received her Bachelor of Music Degree in piano and her Bachelor of Music Education Degree in voice from New Mexico State University in 1996 as a Crimson Scholar.  She received her Master of Music Education Degree in music education from Texas A&M University at Commerce in 2003.  She received her Kodaly Music Education Certification at the University of North Texas in 2009.  She also holds a lifetime teacher certification for K-12 music in the state of Texas.  During her years as an undergraduate, Mrs. Seibert worked as the vocal coach and accompanist for the Doña Ana Lyric Opera in Las Cruces, New Mexico in addition to accompanying several college voice students.  During her time working as an accompanist, Mrs. Seibert learned how to teach and coach advanced voice students from several master professors of voice. Mrs. Seibert moved to Texas in 1996 to teach choir in the public schools.  She has directed public school choirs successfully at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.  After teaching successfully in public schools for several years, she decided to open a full time private music studio where she teaches private voice and piano lessons.  Mrs. Seibert is a master teacher who enjoys helping students maximize their fullest potential as musicians.  She teaches students of all ages and abilities from beginners to advanced, and her students consistently receive superior ratings at festivals and contests and continue to earn medals, trophies, and other awards for excellence in music.  Many of her voice students have made All-Region and All-State choirs and have been awarded scholarship money to sing at various music universities and conservatories throughout the country.  Mrs. Seibert served as the guest clinician and conductor for the NMACDA Youth All-State Choirs in 2005 and 2012.  She has also served as the artistic director of the Lewisville Fifth Grade Honor.  Mrs. Seibert is the founder of a summer Broadway singing camp which is designed to help young singers and actors develop healthy vocal techniques for the stage.  She continues to work as a clinician, adjudicator, soloist, music teacher, guest lecturer, conductor, and accompanist while maintaining a successful music studio in Wylie, Texas
